Once in a while, vintage 16mm oil derrick films of L.A. and vicinity come up on eBay. But they are very $$. 

This was only a 300-footer and went for $1225. And only part of the 300 feet was oil well footage. (Guessing about 150 feet of oil wells.) One of the oil wells was in the middle of the street in West Hollywood!
