Rodrigo Menck Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 Hello. I'm not sure if this is the right place for the topic. Recently, I watched Husbands on streaming and loved the outdoor footage in 70's New York. Maybe because of that time's environment, it remind me of Ernst Haas' NY photography. The warm and vivid colors at least and, maybe not so much, the contrast. Would you please know in what stocks Victor Kemper shot Husbands? Is there a better source than ShotOnWhat.com for this kind of information? Cheers. Rodrigo Menck Porto, Portugal
Mark Dunn Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 There was only one Kodak neg stock in 1970, 5254. It's my understanding that Gevaert and Fuji stocks were rarely used in the US.
Joerg Polzfusz Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 IMDB only lists the used cameras, but also no details about the used filmstocks: https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0065867/technical/?ref_=tt_spec_sm What about 3M/GAF/DuPont? Did they still produced films in 1970?
Joerg Polzfusz Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 BTW: Isn’t at least the manufacturer of the filmstock listed in the credits?
Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted July 17, 2024 Premium Member Posted July 17, 2024 Listing the film stock in the credits is something that happened later in the 1980s. Likely "Husbands" was shot on 5254, which was often pushed one-stop. 2
Rodrigo Menck Posted July 17, 2024 Author Posted July 17, 2024 BTW, found this site after reading your reply. https://filmcolors.org/ If you know other sources online or books, please share. It would be wonderful if there were a book on the history of cinematography (with the technical details and all) like Bordwell's On the History of Film Style... Best wishes, Rodrigo
