Marcel Reiber Posted August 5, 2024 Posted August 5, 2024 Hi everyone, I am new to super 8 and did quite some shots already. I already have my second camera since the first one gave up a while ago. With my new camera I have the problem that there is some strange reflection in the middle of film. First I thought it is the UV filter, since I am only using that one out in the sunlight. However, leaving it away did not solve the problem. I have it only outside so and when there is no cloud coverage so it must come from direct sunlight on the lens. Looking into the camera there is noting visible that could be guesses as a reason. Since the photo shops of my trust couldn't help me, I was wondering whether anyone would have a clue. It is a canon XL310.
Joerg Polzfusz Posted August 5, 2024 Posted August 5, 2024 Hi! Have you been using the internal filter (in some cameras, these filters started to rot and to have tiny holes)? Or did you stop looking through the viewfinder without blocking it? Otherwise (as you claim that it’s not visible in the viewfinder), I would suspect that there’s something between mirror and gate. (When it’s also visible in the viewfinder, I would suspect some problems with the mirror (dirt, scratches, defect coating)… Good Luck!
Donald Jeffrey McCoy Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 I'm not sure but could the lens be damaged on the inside?
Premium Member Dom Jaeger Posted August 16, 2024 Premium Member Posted August 16, 2024 Probably damage to the internal CCA filters, either the 85B or the clear.
