Roberto Colapietro Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Hi folks, I'm looking to buy a Bolex H16, the main requirements for me at this stage are that the camera is capable of single frame shooting and that it's reflex. I came across one I think, but I can't be sure from the pictures (attached). So I thought this is a good place where to ask Is this reflex? And does it do single frame? Finally, would 400£ be a good price for it? Thanks
Premium Member Dom Jaeger Posted January 29 Premium Member Posted January 29 That’s not a reflex. Reflex Bolexes have much thicker fronts, typically with two chrome stripes along the side of the front part. All spring motor Bolexes can do single frame, either instant or timed. Check out the Bolex Collector site to see what reflex Bolexes look like. 1
Roberto Colapietro Posted January 29 Author Posted January 29 Ahh definitely non reflex then? Thanks for the recommendation
Premium Member Simon Wyss Posted January 29 Premium Member Posted January 29 A Paillard-Bolex H reflex finder camera (1956 to 1969) is lettered Reflex. A Bolex H reflex finder camera (from after January 1st, 1970) bears the designation Reflex or SB or SBM or EBM or EL. The Bolex 16 Pro have a reflex finder, too. This one reads H 16 M. No Reflex 1
Don H Marks Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Those flat bottom (late model) non-Rex would be good if one is using a lens with it's own reflex viewing system. Or maybe on an animation stand where a gate focuser/viewfinder is going to be used. 1
Mark Dunn Posted January 30 Posted January 30 (edited) I think the item in the first image is the side finder (Octameter?). So, non-reflex. http://www.bolexcollector.com/accessories/view50.html Edited January 30 by Mark Dunn 1
Premium Member Simon Wyss Posted January 30 Premium Member Posted January 30 Attention, side finders are frequently found with Reflex models. They are a useful accessory for situations when the reflex view is dim. 1
Brian Drysdale Posted February 4 Posted February 4 That's non reflexed, based on my non reflex H16 from years ago, which had a very similar viewer for looking through the top lens on the turret. 1
Don H Marks Posted February 5 Posted February 5 Even with two H8Rex, I still use my non-Rex H8. It is lighter than the others and it takes the f0.9 lens. The non-rex is easier to take apart and get back together correctly too.
Premium Member Simon Wyss Posted February 5 Premium Member Posted February 5 Sometimes I wonder . . . As stated a Paillard-Bolex H reflex finder camera bears the word REFLEX. There is one model of which a reflex version never existed, the H 9.
