Hello, my name is Oliver Aly. I’ve gotten so much help over the years from this forum without posting but now I’ve encountered a problem which I haven’t seen on here yet which I hope can be solved and maybe help someone in the future aswell!

I recently purchased an ACL 1.5, already converted to S16 with a PL mount - which doesn’t seem to be working. However I’ve seen videos of it, supplied by the seller, of it working. It has a 12V battery connected to it and a volt meter showing that it’s receiving the voltage but the motor is not running - until the very end when I switch it off something seems to happen. Would love to hear your feedback on what could be causing it and any recommendations on how to fix it!

Recommendations on skilled technicians out there who would be up for it is also welcome. Preferably in Europe!

Kind regards, Oliver Aly

Well, I wondered who bought that one.  Looks to me like the motor is dead or at least has some issues.  These motors either work or they don't.  The motor most likely can be repaired by AZ Spectrum but you have to be patient with them and there isn't anyone in Europe that I know of that repairs these motors.  There is a new one being offered by Aapo Lettinen that would work well on this camera.  Is that PL mount an adapter or is it hard fixed to the camera?  Looked like it might screw into the C-mount.   Do yourself a favor and have the camera mechanism and magazines serviced before running this camera.  Good luck.

I have seen videos of it working before. I guess something happened between then and now. But yes most likely a motor issue by my guess aswell.

I have been in contact with Aapo about his motors, and I’m getting one for my NPR! However I can’t afford both.

Turns out the advertised PL mount was indeed an adapter…

Going to try and return it and save myself the headache! Thanks for the reply!

I had spied this camera for sale on the BBlist in the Uk and they were saying it was in Poland and then it showed up on Ebay in Italy and also on Camermarket.EU.  I inquired about it but they couldn't tell me anything about it.  I saw the videos of it running, too but I had doubts about it as it looked so beat up.  If you can send it back, I would.  Did you buy it through the Ebay Italy ad?

I have the 4-speed motor which is for sale until 15th April, the lower price is 720usd with shipping. I also have the older 10speed model, can sell it for 900. The new ACL2025 motor is 1600usd. So there is 3 options for new motors at the moment, of which the 10speed is available immediately, the 4speed will ship in early June and the 2025 version in August/September

If you can get partial refund you could then run it with newly made motor. They should compensate if the original motor is not working. Usually they rather want to partially refund than to get the camera back and pay extra shipping costs and have to sell it again

Thank you Aapo, I hear what you are saying and I was considering that aswell. I will however try to sort out a full refund since the camera seems to have more than one headache and will need an expensive servicing to go with it. However if that doesn’t turn out I will keep it in mind. Looking forward to the NPR motor nonetheless!

Kind regards, Oliver

good luck with it Oliver.  I can see the attraction as the camera had a lot of potential...super16, pl mount, and this video tap system that looks factory.  it was going cheap, too.

Thank you Steven! Hahah yeah, maybe just a little too good to be true and we know how that usually goes…

The factory video tap was definitely intriguing - oh well!

yes if it has more potential issues than the motor then might be best to send it back. If it was only the motor they should refund like 700 or 800 by my opinion but I doubt they would refund more than 500. It would still be pretty ok priced though if the video optics work.

if S16 is not needed it is easy to pick up another ACL later on. I even have one here which I will probably sell after all different ACL motor projects are done and have shot some short films with it, probably in November or December this year
