Hello,

This may be a longshot. I'm doing some research for a project and I'm trying to identify the make and model of a sound (mixing?) board that appears in a 1967 episode of the original Mission: Impossible television series. The episode is entitled "The Train," and the board was used to combine/select the outputs from a bank of reel-to-reel tape recorders (though it was just a TV show). I've attached a picture of it from a screencap.

I think it's a commercial board because it looks like they covered the manufacturer's name, below the VU meter, with a piece of black tape. Any help or pointers would be much appreciated.

Thanks very much!

Dave

Hello,

My first thought was some kind of Nagra-Kudelski product; but now I believe it was just a cobbled together box of parts to look good enough for the show to make us ask questions all these years later.

It has the look of vintage UNIVERSAL AUDIO gear.

Founded in 1958 by Bill Putnam, Sr. with products produced under the Universal Audio brand through the mid-1970s, the company was re-established in 1999 by his sons Jim and Bill Putnam, Jr..

Look at the small speaker grid on the upper left section. That is a talk back monitor. It's probably a custom made field mixer/recorder(surveillance). The MIC knob controls the preamp level.

Post that image on the TAPEOP message board, some old school guy will have an answer.

Thanks, guys, for the responses and suggestions.

I know this was not cobbled together for the episode, I've seen it being used on the set in behind the scenes photos.

I'll post that picture at the TAPEOP message board. Thanks for the suggestion!
