Steve Switaj Posted August 9, 2025 Posted August 9, 2025 So... Bloomberg News sez "Arri is reportedly weighing its future and contemplating a potential sale" (for those not in the US, Bloomberg is a financial news organization, well regarded for their corporate and market reporting) Quote Arri Group, a German manufacturer of cameras and other equipment used in filming, is considering options including a full or partial sale of the business, according to people familiar with the matter. The management and owners of Munich-based Arri are in initial talks with potential advisers, the people said, asking not to be identified because the information is private. A deal could involve selling a majority or minority stake, they said. The firm has also been working with consultancy AlixPartners to streamline its business, the people said. The article itself is paywalled... https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-08-06/german-film-equipment-maker-arri-weighs-options-including-sale But many industry sources have secondary coverage, Here's PetaPixel's take https://petapixel.com/2025/08/07/arri-owners-considering-selling-amid-challenging-cinema-landscape/
David Lawson Posted August 10, 2025 Posted August 10, 2025 YM Cinema has this take on the situation: https://ymcinema.com/2025/08/08/canon-should-buy-arri/ May help to balance Nikon's buying RED Cinema.
Premium Member Tyler Purcell Posted August 10, 2025 Premium Member Posted August 10, 2025 The fact Arri has lasted this long is incredible in my view. Now that they have perfected the digital cinema camera, there really isn't any vertical for them anymore. The owners want out, they're getting older and want to divest. Also I heard that Vitec is also going out as well, they are one of the leaders in professional accessories. I wonder how much they want. In the end, if you can't make products for the broad majority of users, your business is a dead end these days. Also, I don't think Canon, Sony or Panasonic have any interest in owning Arri. Nikon's acquisition was more of a legal thing, rather than purely technology. The Japanese do not like purchasing other peoples tech. Red was also not doing well financially and I think Nikon was forced into the deal due to the legal battle. I don't feel this Arri situation is similar at all. For me when I look at it, the perfect match would be Blackmagic. They could use their rental houses to help promote their own cameras globally. They could also revamp the Arri supply chain to cut costs and release lower-cost cameras using a similar imager. I don't think any of that will happen. It'll be some hedge fund group who will come in and slowly dismantle the brand.
