Zain Hashmat Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 Hi all. I recently acquired a Chinon 2500GL Super 8 projector. Everything seems to be in working order except the shutter keeps getting stuck and stopping, which prevents the entire rotating mechanism from functioning properly. Should I use some lube to fix this? Maybe replacing the band around the shutter with a rubber band? Or is the shutter not the problem? What do you all suggest? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance! Mark Dunn Posted September 4, 2025 Posted September 4, 2025 (edited) Those videos require permission. Mine hasn't arrived after 6 hours. In the absence of the video, and assuming there's no mechanical obstruction, probably a worn drivebelt. An elastic band is too, er, elastic, you probably need a replacement. Try cleaning it first, also clean the grooves in which the belt runs with contact cleaner, and replace all the grease in the mechanism. It has probably hardened with age and now causes too much resistance for the motor. Don't use oil as it will just drain off and may spray onto the film. Edited September 4, 2025 by Mark Dunn
Mark Dunn Posted September 4, 2025 Posted September 4, 2025 I've now seen the vids. Not much to add- is the belt slipping or stationary? If it's slipping then clean the grooves on the shutter and motor pulleys.
