Marc Roessler Posted November 26 Posted November 26 (edited) While we're at it with the Cinegons... I have a Schneider Cinegon 16mm/f2 in Arri standard mount, it looks quite good on superficial inspection.. but when shining a strong light in from the film side, a whiteish haze is visible. What's that? Could be fungus, but the outside lenses are totally fine. Haze deposited on the internal lens elements, from unsuitable oils maybe? Or is this internal lens elements separating? Would love to try to clean this myself, if it's not lens element separation... but, as already asked in the other thread: would also like to hear recommendations for anyone who still services these in Germany. Premium Member Dom Jaeger Posted November 27 Premium Member Posted November 27 Hard to say when the haze/damage is out of focus. Fungus looks like tiny spiderwebs, this looks more like spots and scratches. Haze can be a few things - easily cleaned residue, permanent coating degradation, Canada Balsam between a doublet gone bad. Often opening the lens up to inspect the element in question is the only way to find out.
Marc Roessler Posted November 27 Author Posted November 27 Sorry for the bad focus. Unfortunately this was the closest I could get to "in focus" with the smartphone camera. Again, like in the other discussion thread: thanks for your input!
