Samuel Berger Posted April 14 Posted April 14 My BMPCC OG won't recognize any SD cards, even cards that used to work in it. Is there any sort of fix for this?
Premium Member Tyler Purcell Posted April 14 Premium Member Posted April 14 Check the pins on the inside. I haven't had this issue on any BMD cameras, but the pins can get worn. My two pockets have been around the block, across the country multiple times, around the world, beaten up to the point where both have messed up screens and rubber covers, but man they still create a great image for the size. I have taken both apart tho... so maybe in doing that, I was smart enough to clean the connector for the SD? The last time I used then was in 2018 I believe. The kit is all together tho... man what a blast from the past to pull them out. I should do that one of these days. 1
Samuel Berger Posted April 16 Author Posted April 16 I'm not sure I would know how to take it apart. But yeah I remember you did the documentary about furries and you used it along with your Aaton XTR. Can't believe how long ago that was! Is it easy to just take it apart?

Yea exactly, we started shooting digital and then switched to film. I don't think any of the BMPCC material will wind up in the final because we've shifted stories quite a bit and the people we interviewed and shot with on the BMPCC aren't involved anymore. The camera comes a part easily. The rubber parts are pealed back to reveal the screws. The back comes off first and then you can remove the top board and you should be able to access the pins from there. Be careful about the ribbon cables, there are a few hidden ones. There are plenty of videos on YouTube to help guide you. You can see the connector pretty easily once you get the boards out, it's right there. Just be careful you don't bend the pins, they don't look fragile, but they are extremely fragile.

I've heard of BMPCC OGs falling apart after a few years but never this. I looked into it with a flashlight and I can state the pins are not bent at all. I cleaned them with a sensor cleaner stick and still nothing. What makes this weird is how the cards used to work before and now they don't. I might have to buy another BMPCC OG,

I ordered an Angelbird card that is supposed to work. But before that, I ordered a Kingston card that was "supposed to work" and didn't, and then a Sandisk Extreme Pro that was "supposed to work" and didn't.

I mean I use the inexpensive SanDisk cards on mine, never had an issue. I have the original cards I got in 2013 and they all still work. So it's just the camera, something happened to it.

I bought a cheap old card and inserted in my camera. I didn't bother closing the card door because I already imagined the card wouldn't work. Well, for this card it wouldn't even let me try to format it. With older cards it said "No card" but at least the format card icon was not greyed out. I don't know what happened, if it had anything to do with the door closed or open, but I followed up with my Kingston 64GB SDS2 Canvas Select Plus card that I had already tried several times before, and this time, I thought I'd try to format it again in-camera for comparison. So, for the first time, it actually went through and formatted! I couldn't believe it! It actually worked. I then tried the SDS2 512GB and that also worked in spite of not having worked 100 times before. Somehow trying to format the cheap card with the door opened did something. I can't think of what, but there it is. I then tried a number of other cards. The surprising thing is that nothing makes my Lexar 512 95mbs/s card work. It appears as formattable and I just know that it used to work, but it fails formatting. Sandisk Extreme Pro 32GB 95mb/s works again. Sandisk Extreme Pro 200mb/s doesn't. I still haven't received my Angelbird card but I'll report back when I do.
Premium Member Tyler Purcell Posted April 19 Premium Member Posted April 19 Oh the 512GB cards may not work, I think there is a cap on the size.
