Ben Strefford Posted May 12 Posted May 12 i know many productions using the alexa mini shoot in 3.2k and then upscale in post to 4k, how is this done in da vinci, doing a test shoot with the alexa mini tomorrow and is test the 3.2k and 4k in camera upscale, however some information on how to upscale to 4k would be great, ultimately wanting to know if its worth the loss of storage to shoot in the in camera 4k upscale, or if shooting 3.2k and upscaling in post is the way to go. will be shooting in pro res 444
Max Field Posted May 13 Posted May 13 I recall doing a test on my Amira (same sensor and 3.2/4k upscale options like the Mini) and I side-by-sided the footage and could hardly tell a difference with the in-camera upscaled version when zooming in to 150% vs the native 3.2K. So I guess it's done in Davinci by throwing 3.2k footage into the 4K timeline project file and saying "Ok good enough" lol.

I once worked at a post-production house and we regularly upscaled footage and nobody noticed and it passed the networks' QC. (We had a rule that you couldn't go past 150% though.)
