Unknown variable speed motor for Arriflex II cameras

I recently got my hands on this motor that was clearly made for Arriflex II-type cameras. I'm posting it here because I have never seen that kind of motor before. It does not have any type or manufacturer markings.

I have opened it up; it is not a rheostat type motor like the well known original ARRI motor. But I guess it is not that much better. It is just a potentiometer that controls an LM317 which then regulates the voltage supplied to a DC motor.

It would be interesting to know who built this 🙂
