Story is just a framework. It's got to be good, but there's much more to filmmaking ...

Story. Cinematography. Music. Character. Art direction. Dialogue.

Of the six, perhaps the most critical are the second and third. Yes, you do need a good story, but you will make your movie truly entertaining if these two are done really, really well.

So often, in successful films, it comes down to that.

And of course, character. Imagine Star Wars if Luke, Han, Leia, and Darth Vader had had dull and uninspiring character.

Yeah sure, then there's editing, etc etc. Super important.

I strongly suspect that writers would disagree and put the story first and then character, although they may even reverse those two, since the story itself is driven by fulfilling the character(s) need and their overcoming of the obstacles placed in their way.
