Hello!

I have a Kinoptik 5,7mm Tegea that I have been using on my Eclair NPR, that is very soft especially wide open.  Unfortunately I have been using a Cameflex adapter with grub screws that I think has worn the grooves of the standard mount out. I have now converted the camera to PL mount and now unfortunately the Kinoptik lens doesn't seem to be fully secured by the RAF PL-Arri-S adapter that I am using. The lens can be rocked up and down when it is secured in the adapter. Given that these wide angle lenses have to be quite precisely adjusted I am suspecting that this might be causing the softness.

Does any body know if this can be fixed somehow? Or do I need to look for a spare lens to get a new mount that is not so worn. I am kicking myself as the lens was hardly used. I should have been more careful with the adapter probably...

Would be thankful for any help!

I wouldn’t assume it’s the lens mount that’s the problem.

A better adapter, like the sort that lock against a ring you put in the groove (Visual Products, Duclos) could help remove the rocking, but I suspect the softness is a question of needing to have the back-focus checked by a technician with a lens projector. For a fixed focus wide angle lens like this it’s essential. Also worth having your camera flange depth checked.

Thank you Dom!

I think you could be right. With the RAF adapter the lens is only held in place by spring loaded balls. Probably the Tegea is just to long and heavy for this type of adapter. It seems to work ok for small prime lenses.

The camera has been recently been serviced and converted to PL so hopefully it should not be the flange depth. Unfortunately it is quite difficult to find technician able or willing to collimate lenses here in Austria. But I have always been suspicious as the lens always only focused on very close distance... It is strange the lens looks practically unused all the screw heads are untouched so probably it got out of whack in the 40 or so years in storage...
