hello brain trust —

what do yall know about this weird camera slider? I unearthed it at work recently and am pretty impressed by its imposing, sort of futuristic styling. I’m baffled by a couple of things too — but i’ll cut to the one that I nor anyone else here can figure out: how do you lock the base to the floor?

I’ve been struggling to find any info on it; as it seems that they switched to a traditional tripod design fairly quickly. have any of you worked with one of these and happen to remember how to lock the wheels from turning?

Maybe you’ll simply lower the “feet“ a little bit more so that the wheels don’t touch the ground anymore?

Also, the “feet” look very short. Are you sure that there aren’t any extensions that are locked in the “feet’s” holes?

the feet drop down but are not necessarily lowered elegantly — they’re held in place by removable pins and simply drop down full force. there seems to be no way to get the feet to extend beyond the wheels, even though that seems like what should be happening…

i don’t believe there are any more accessories for the base. the holes on the little crab legs look more like flare/decoration than functional bits. below is the one promotional picture i could find of the unit — i see some rubber looking feet but relying on that to stop the slider from rocking the body seems a bit underbuilt…IMG_4898.jpeg.d4776e410f289cc0303a6fed086be0e1.jpeg

On all images that aren’t from you, the “crab legs” only have three visible holes. And the fourth hole is covered by the rubber extension.

Your images have four holes and no rubber extension.

Looks like your device is incomplete.

yeah, it really seems like its supposed to have some sort of rubber sock on each foot. I have a hard time believing that would be enough to prevent rocking and shifting, but I couldn't tell you because those footies are MIA...

Thank you for sharing that link, though!! I can see in the photos in your link that it is missing the rubber foot cover too. I bet they got torn to shreds often. Points for originality to cineped, though...

And yes, manual lift. The linear guides are pretty precise. The tolerances seem pretty high.... The proprietary dovetail that mounts the slider onto the pedestal is really clean and has very little play. This would have been a very expensive kit once upon a time but there are too many things about it that make it feel like four different design philosophies were crammed into one hodgepodgy thing at the last minute. but damn does it look cool
