SI-1920HDVR on Spoon feature set

I know some of you might allready know about this, but still if you don't, check it out.

 

Silicon Imaging has let us use the prototypes of their new SI-1920HDVR to shoot our feature film, entitled SPOON. The film tracks the life of a man with an unusual medical condition that causes him to black out during moments of extreme stress. The condition leads him to make a remarkable discovery about himself that sets in motion events that changes his life.

How are they incredible?

Well, where to start?

 

You are recording direct to disk, so no more expensive tape stock. Using CineForm RAW wavelet compressionso it's still 10-bit, it's integrated with the Adobe Software, so there's no need to render to start editing. The camera head can be seperated from the body, so it's basically just a lens and the CMOS chip, thus you can get any angle you want. Very neat: you are using FILM lenses on an HD camera, we get a depth of field up to arounf 1.4 meters. There's a lot more, check out the blog. You should look at the footage, it's great: it looks like HD, just nice and soft, but still crystal clear...

Is that to say that the camera is more exciting than the script or the performance the actors are giving? Why is the camera called "the most exciting"? What does it matter? Is the story that boring or unimportant that what type of camera is the talk of the day? Sad days indeed.

Don't be snooty, I'm talking about the camera for those who care about camera's. It's giving us the oppurtunity to make a feature film on a independent budget, i.e. very small, but still enablign us to give high end result. And of course the script is good, how else do we get the little funding we got. It's not like in South Africa you can make a film about anything and get supported. We are still ateeped in racial history and most funding goes to film projects that reflect that. Do you know anything about HD or what?

he site look good, very informative, and stills are great quality. Any chance of seeing some stills of the footage?

 

Also, what lighting package are you using. How reactive is the camera to what you are trying to achieve? Are there any unforseen difficulties?
