Probably the Beaulieu 7008 or Canon 1014XLS. Can't give you any dates.

Who actually owns the designs/jigs/parts for the Beaulieu 7008/9008?

 

I assume S8Sound and Ritter were either simply re-badging cameras or building from parts. Who actually holds the pieces needed to make brand new 9008's?

The skids were put on super-8 camera production somewhere between 1979 - 1981. It's hard to exactly know for sure because the last years production run and existing inventories had to be blown out and that process took a year or two after all cameras had stopped being made.

 

The backpage ads found in Popular Photography Magazines in the late 70's early 80's was my favorite place to look at the Super-8 camera advertisements. New in the box Canon 814XLS's being blown out at super low prices, initally sold for around 600 to 800 dollars, the Canons finally sold for around 300 bucks at the very end.

 

Ironically that final blow out sale hurt super-8 because everyone remembered those super low prices and reselling a camera was no longer based on the original real price for the camera but the final blow out price instead, so many super-8 cameras lost initial value not because of video but because of those blow out prices listed in the back of the camera magazines.

The grinding halt was around 1980, 1981, those 1983 cameras were as you say, stripped down models, the good stuff had pretty much halted except for beaulieu. Eumig might have still gone on but apparently Polaroid had initially ordered a ton of super-8 cameras from Eumig for a polaroid line and then instantly pulled the plug, after eumig had already invested infrastructure into accomodating Polaroid, which apparently put Eumig instantly out of business.

 

Sad really because I bet one super-8 camera company could have survived through much of the 80's.
