Premium Member Josh Hill Posted August 2, 2004 Premium Member Posted August 2, 2004 So I walk into a local store who transfers "Super-8" footage to VHS (restoring old home movies and such). I know its just a film-chain or something, but still ... it saves me from having to do it if I have to in the future. I ask the guy: "You do Super-8 transfers right?" Guy: "Yeah. I think." Me: "Super-8 film?" Guy: "Well, let me ask." Leaves, asks. Guy: "Yeah." Me: "You're sure? I'm talking about Super-8 film." Guy: "Let me ask again." Leaves, asks. Guy: "Okay, are you talking about SUPER-8?" He taps a Sony Handicam Guy: "Or, like, reel to reel super-8?" Me: "Film, super-8. Thats video" Blank look. Guy: "So you mean reel to reel?" Me: "Yes, I mean film." Guy: "Let me ask." I just thought about it and thought it was humorous.
Nate Downes Posted August 2, 2004 Posted August 2, 2004 What is funnier is that the place I work *does* do Super8 (and regular 8 and 16mm) transfers, and so many people walk in and go "I know this is a long shot, but do you happen to know anyone that can take my old home movies and put them on a DVD for me?" I've even made some money on the side renting out my film viewers so the customers can go through their movies and see which ones go in what order.
Sam Wells Posted August 2, 2004 Posted August 2, 2004 In the late 80's & sometime into the 90's the Fotomat chain was doing S8 transfers on Cintels. I knew a Fotomat colorist, actually. -Sam
