Dan Salzmann
I remember seeing a very intensely filmed banquet scene in a Bergman film and can't remember which film it was. Anyone out there have any ideas?
Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted August 31, 2004 Premium Member Share Posted August 31, 2004 There are banquets in a lot of Bergman films (I think "Smiles of a Summer Night" has one) but you may be thinking of "Fanny and Alexander", which has a wedding feast I think. Or was it a Christmas time feast?
Dan Salzmann
The film I remember was in B&W and seemed rather intense. I need some inspiration for an upcoming project. The technical brief is: "Intense camera moves"... Night time, no candles, no chandelier, 10-12 people, "soft yet snappy lighting" (my favorite!). Ceiling height is pretty high. Am considering chinese lanterns mixed with more specular rim light but these lights spill all over the place. I need to add that we are filming in color. Any suggestions? Dominic Case
You aren't thinking of Bunuel's "Viridiana" (1961) are you? The film culminates in a wild banquet scene parodying the Last Supper. It was (of course) black and white - and I believe it was banned in Spain for many years.
eddiefruchter
Is the film you are thinking of The Hour of the Wolf The scene is of a camera spinning around the faces of all of the people at the table in a circular motion. Stunningly beautiful.
