Film Industry in the Carolinas

I am just wondering if any of the more experienced posters have done film work in North Carolina? I am currently a videographer for the Army at Fort Bragg, NC, and dream of shooting film for a living one day. My main questions would be: How are the majority of camera/lighting jobs landed? What do producers/directors look for when they hire a DP/camera operator-assistant/grip...? Also, if you could describe any experiences working in this area and anything you found better/worse about it than other regions. Is there more than just shows for the WB made at Screen Gems in Wilmington? Thanks for the input.

I've shot features and MOW's in both North and South Carolina. There are great crews and a very film friendly environment to be found. Getting work comes from learning the skills and getting to know the people in the film community.
