Controling apature when using a 35mm adaptor?

Hi everyone,

this might me a daft question, but we are about to buy an adaptor - probably the Letus extreme for our HVX 200 and it just popped into my head - where do I control the apature?

Do do i shot with the iris wide open on the camera and use the iris on the lens? Or do I open the iris on the lens and control from the cam as normal?? Or do you usually do a bit of both?

Interested to know if people have preferences and what results you get.

Thanks,

Jacqueline

It's a balance of both. The taking lens' aperture controls depth of field of the scene, and the adapter's aperture controls focus and veiling glare on the groundglass. Usually you'll find a "sweet spot" where both work best, and limits where either one can introduce problems. ND filters can help control exposure while maintaining optimum aperture settings.
