Michael Totten
I'm on a small documentary project that's traveling all around the world. Is there such thing as a C-Stand that will fold up or break down for easy travel on a plane, train and automobile. We've been renting locally... but sometimes it's more of a pain to find a grip house in some of these remote locations than it's worth. thanks. Premium Member Chris Keth Posted January 24, 2008 Premium Member Share Posted January 24, 2008 The closest thing I know of are turtle stands like these. They can take either 20" or 40" uprights. If you're only doing lightweight gripwork, you could use some kind of folding stand with goboheads and arms.
Premium Member Chad Stockfleth Posted January 24, 2008 Premium Member Share Posted January 24, 2008 +1 light stand with gobo head and arm. maybe bring a sandbag as it will be a little less sturdy.
JD Hartman
Look at the Matthews C stand survival kit. It's about as compact as you can get without resorting to folding kit stands. Instead of sandbags, get the water filled weight bags. Minimal addditional weight in your kit when empty.
Bob Hayes
Take a c-stand arm and knuckle and use aluminum light stands. There are many different sizes and weights of the stands the smaller the more portable and less stable. If you want super portability there are small knuckles made by companies like Bogan which allow you to easily attach a small flag to a light stand. You don?t have the strength or reach of a c-stand style arm and knuckle but it is supper light. http://www.bogenimaging.us/Jahia/site/bius...;curBrandId=MAN Add to it a Matthew?s road rags kit and you are styling. http://www.msegrip.com/mse.php?show=produc...oducts_ID=25371
