.... one is a 2/3" ccd camera and the other has a 35mm sensor and you're really comparing apples and oranges.

More like apples and watermellons. ;-)

 

The 2/3" image is somewhere between Super-8 and Regular 16 in size: 0.378" x 0.213" = 0.0805 square inches.

The 16:9 extraction from full aperture 35mm is over six times larger: 0.945" x 0.531" = 0.5018 square inches.
