Marc Shap
Hi, I am lighting a backdrop for a Music Video, its of a church Interior. I am assuming its like a vinyl material, what lights are typically used to light backdrops. I would think like a 10k Skypan? Any thoughts? marc
Premium Member Michael Nash Posted March 19, 2008 Premium Member Share Posted March 19, 2008 It depends on how big it is, how far away from the foreground, how wide the shot, what rigging points you have available, on and on... If it's vinyl you're likely to end up with wrinkles and reflections on the backdrop. One big light usually means one big hot spot, or one big reflection. Usually the solution is to have a lot of smaller lights spaced evenly, perhaps a cyc strip. It's really just a matter of scale. I've seen even multiple 1K nook lights work pretty well at the right distance.
