Very quick test

what were you testing? the DOF adapter? go do something a bit more interesting. try to make the dolly move and other shots without the vibration.

Well if you read the description in the video, i am testing the dof adapter, dolly, lenses, the camera itself, pretty much everything. I don't know what you mean by make the dolly move?...the dolly was moving, thats what dollies do. Please explain, and what do you mean by 'other shots without vibration'? And like i said, it was a real quick test, so i just shot the easiest, most accessible thing - my bro on the laptop. What would you find interesting btw?

Why not mention the description here. I went to view the test and am not familiar with Vimeo or even thought to spend time to look for a description. Just write that sort of thing here. Be less offended. What would you want someone to say after that. "Good Job!" on something that we see flooded on youtube. I mean, I understand it was a one man thing, but if you want people to pay attention to what you are doing shoot something a bit more interesting that a bunch of shots of the same thing.

There's shots that are shaking. you dont see it?

Gear the attitude down. I gave you honest feedback.

Make the Dolly Move AND other shots without the shake. I know the Dolly was moving. Dont be a smart ass. there was shake during the move itself, that what was clearly stated in the previous response I gave.

Test the gear, Let's see some Focus Patterns, some Color Tests etc. Shoot that sort of thing so we can see what the gear adds and takes away from. Thats a test. Lets see the limits. Obviously the DOF adapter is problematic with the grain being so visible on the internet. Lord knows what it looks like in HD or even on DVD.

Personally, I'd like to see how much sharpness is lost from that adapter and lenses, If it handles colors well.

Being a smart ass? I was doing no such thing, i just didn't understand your first comment. Perhaps if you explained it a little better, i would have. "Make the dolly move"? That obviously makes no sense. Also, 'other shots without vibration', that confused me as i am using a vibrating adapter so i figured you were referring to that.

And of course i am looking for honest feedback, just some feedback that has been written with a shred of intelligence. Again, if you read the description, you would see i have mentioned about the grain pattern and yes, the dolly is rather problematic, it was a diy one (which maybe i should have mentioned) Again, this was just a test, my next videos will of course contain an array of different subjects which i hope for people to find 'interesting'. And i was testing colour using MB looks, but perhaps you don't mean grading when saying 'colour tests'? (if not, explain)

Also focus patterns, what do you mean? Like rack focus? If so, i included it in the test, if not, explain. Remember, i am kind of new to this, so i won't immediately know what you mean with certain terms.

I didn't mean to write with an 'attidude' and am sorry it came out that way, but calling me a 'smart ass' isn't a very mature response. So please, by all means, tell me how i can improve my video, just type it in understandable English and don't mention things that i have already said or included in the video. Tell me whats wrong with the colour, tell me if the editing didn't work, tell me how the lighting is bad, tell me how i can improve camera movement, tell me the music didn't work, tell me what YOU would have done different (given my circumstances). I am here to learn, not to be a 'smart ass' and being told to "go do something more interesting", thats not exactly constructive criticism is it??

you are new to this. Everything I've said makes good sense. It's clear.

Rack focus? No. Charts. Shoot some charts.

Color? No grading. Shoot a color chart. compare the adapter. Dont just put the kit together and shoot randomness. learn about what you are gaining and losing by using the adapter.

Just because you didnt get a response you wanted doesn't mean its not constructive. It's not my fault you dont understand what I've written.

I am not looking at anything but the camera results and set up. why color it? share the color that is natural. if anything, its more like you are testing your skills and not the set up. I am not looking at editing or music. (lights?)

or you could wait for someone else to give their feedback.

Ok. As i have said, i simply just wanted to shoot something short and simple, testing the DOF adapter with a new lens, a diy dolly and colour grading. I don't think i can achieve this by shooting charts, (although i agree, the results would be useful to me, that wasn't the first thing i wanted to do). I also wanted to test my skills at colour grading (as again, i am pretty new to MB looks). At first, you told me to go shoot something more interesting, perhaps you find charts more interesting and i'm sure, i will get around to doing it soon when i get my new adapter but wasn't the first thing i would have thought to shoot. Is that the first thing you run out to do when you recieve new equipment? Perhaps, but thats not me. Also, this forum is critique my work, not critique my charts...(or so i thought)

Just because you didnt get a response you wanted doesn't mean its not constructive. It's not my fault you dont understand what I've written.

I have to disagree with you here, i doubt anyone would have understood your first post no matter how high their technical knowledge, but perhaps i am wrong...

Despite this, i do appreciate your input and will take your advice and shoot some charts fairly soon. And i apologize for sounding like i have an attitude.

A lot of us would have been more interested in some chart comparisons. It certainly is interesting to look at resolution charts and see what comes of the set up.

usually when I get new equipment, I've already used and tested the gear (this includes charts) and shooting some charts first up is not uncommon.

Most people here would understand the term "Dolly Move" and understand that it was a term, and not two seperate things. example, "Lets rehearse the dolly move" or "the dolly move was a bit rough, lets try it again"

post some pictures of your camera set up. etc, Im interested in seeing it. Good luck with the rig. Look forward to improved results

Yeah sure. Here is my puny hv30 with a 35mm vibrating adapter with a rubbish mic attatched:

Am hoping to upgrade to maybe a rail system because i might want a follow focus or mattebox in the future. I do like this set up as it is nice and small and just about does the job for me :)

btw, how would i go about getting charts? Do i buy them or is it possible to print them yourself?

cheers

Proper color charts like macbeths have to be purchased because they have to very closely control the printing process. Simple things like focus charts can be printed. Just make sure you do it on good photo paper to avoid bleeding and to do it at the highest resolution your printer can.
