Daniel Carruthers Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 I got a short film coming up this weekend Im shooting on the JVC GY HD250 and the editor wants to know if he can capture the footage using a different camera? does it have to be captured using an HDV camera,or could it just be a mini dv camera?? I think either, but I dont know for sure
Guest Owen Parker Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 You probably could use a different JVC HDV camcorder or deck but you won't be able to use a DV/DVCAM camcorder or deck as they aren't compatible. Does your Editor have a particular reason for wanting to use a different camera?
Phil Connolly Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 The JVC flavor of HDV is different and incompatible with most other deaks and cameras - eg sony decks mostly won't play it back. Generally you need a JVC deck or camera to play back a JVC shot tape. There may be a few other decks that play back JVC tapes - but they are pretty rare.
Guest Owen Parker Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Just had a quick look at the specs on the JVC site and I would seriously suggest you capture your rushes from the camcorder if you can. Phil's right, JVC kit is hard to come by and if you do try capturing from another deck/camcorder you might find you get drop out or other playback errors. If you can capture from the camcorder you shoot on you stand a much better chance of a hassle free edit. Good luck with the shoot.
