I havent shot a roll yet, but there seems so many things that can go wrong with super8 shooting that I am thinking of getting my cam serviced before I even put a roll through.

I have a wind up Kinoflex which I bought new (old stock) 2 years ago. Im wondering as it hasnt done any work since manufacture (say 93), im wondering if it should be serviced?

I am also considering buying a canon 814xl or 1014 so might get them both looked at.

So who would tyou reccomend in thr UK? I know of Seandeancameras.

Also, what shoukd be checked ona serviced?

Lube of gears?

Correct running speeds (18/24 etc)?

Lens collomation?

Light meter/appature checked?

What else guys??

Thanks

James

I've just had a quote from Sendean regarding a full service for a Canon 1014XL-S: £169 + vat!

After hearing the quote I didn't bother to enquire what the full service entailed but I'm sure as hell curious to know exactly what they do for that price (I originally asked for cleaning and re-lubrication).

Hi -

When I lived in the UK, I had my Nizo 801 Macro serviced and modified at GK Film in Germany. I had this done via Frank Bruinsma at the Super 8 Reversal Lab in Holland www.super8.nl.

They can service most of the well known top brands of camera - GK Film are well experienced with super 8 repairs and service as they have been doing so since the old days.

As far as I know, you get everything checked and adjusted to as it should be which includes light meter and running speeds etc.

My Nizo had a faulty light meter - I had this fixed and had the light meter power source modified to run from the main battery power pack thus no need for those cell batteries.

The camera was also cleaned and lubed.

All this, including priority shipping back from Germany cost me £145. (2 years ago)

I was very pleased with the service - and it came with a 3 month g'tee also.

Why not drop Frank a line with the make and model of the camera and get a quote?

I think the Canon 1014xl-s and 814xl-s might cost a bit more to service as they are very tricky to work on - so I've heard.

sendean are a joke and all they do is send it out to some old geezer somewhere.

in the store all the guys are working on other types of quick turnaround gear.

the super is sent out.

my bet is germany, the repairers in that country are much more serious.and a lot quicker.

sendean are money grabbers and they take forever.

Hello small-gauge enthusiast,

here are some more recommendations for servicing your 8/16mm equipment in GERMANY:

http://www.ffr-film.de

http://www.kinotechnikrinser.de/

http://www.bavaria-cinehome.de/

http://www.ritterfilm.de/Filmgerate_Repara...ur_service.html

Most of them are run by only 1-2 persons. As a writer for the (unfortunately) discontinued "SMALLFORMAT" magazine

i know most of these companies and i can recommend them.

Whatever happened to "Agitta" in Germany? They used to do great Nizo repair.

Any current Nizo recommendations?

Hi Jim, did you see my recommendation above? I got my Nizo 801 Macro repaired by GK film in Germany via Frank Bruinsma at the Super 8 Reversal Lab in Holland.

Excellent service - recommended!

I had my Nizo 561 Macro serviced by a guy at Golborne Cameras, Golborne Rd, London W10 a couple of years ago.

I can't really say in much detail what he did or whether he's any kind of Nizo or super 8 specialist, but my camera ran beautifully afterwards, and has done ever since. I think he charged me around £40.

I asked the Camera Centre in Hailsham about serviceing my Nizo. They said to service a Super 8 camera that worked would cost around £70. The service would entail a clean, lubrication where necessary and a check over to ensure that it is functioning correctly.

the uk is a waste of time for super 8 repair, a few old geezers who are sent cameras from many different shops..

3,6 or 9 month turnaround. this would not happen in germany.

i had a nikon r10 with a bit of fungus seandean had it 2 months then said it was a right off.

forget england.
