Dave Bourbois
Hello, everyone. Do you guys know of any transfer houses that can Telecine S16 or 35MM to the JVC PRO-HD D-VHS VTRs? Those decks go for under a grand and offer very good resolution, just a thought. -Dave
Mitch Gross
That's an Mpeg-2 encoded signal, identical to the new HDV standard. JVC doesn't make a deck that would really properly integrate into a transfer room setup, and the format isn't appropriate for that anyway. Since it is HD anyway and you'll be paying for an HD transfer room, better off going to HDCam or HD D-6 and then making a dupe down to D-VHS. JVC themselves tout it for this use, noting that it is an excellent way to view dailies on location. Jerry Bruckheimer has been using this for his recent productions, and I know that "Legally Blonde 2" did as well. The HDcam feature "The Company," directed by Robert Altman, dubbed their footage down to D-VHS and watched dailies on an HD plasma screen purchased at the local Best Buy.
