Guest Stephen Murphy
Dead jealous of the huge thick billowing smoke shot at the start. Very thick and chunky! How was that achieved? love Freya Just a couple of plain old fog machines:) Gald you liked it. S

Freya Black
Just a couple of plain old fog machines:) Gald you liked it.S Two! Oh the indulgence of it! I've only got a tiny little disco smoke machine. (Do they call that a hazer or is that something else?) Anyway that is certainly some thick chunky looking smoke! Seems like this was a very well equipped shoot! love Freya

Premium Member Adrian Sierkowski Posted March 27, 2010 Premium Member Share Posted March 27, 2010 Looks really nice Stephen, as always, though-- and I feel kinda odd saying this-- that final still feels just a little bit too bright for a night ext, especially given the lighting in the rest. Matt Garrett
Seems to me that something MAGICAL may be going on in that still. Would love to hear how you lit that wide shot in the library.
Guest Stephen Murphy
Seems to me that something MAGICAL may be going on in that still.Would love to hear how you lit that wide shot in the library. That Library wide shot was lit with two 500w springballs rigged to the roof. The practicals in shot have 100w bulbs in them. Thats it:-) I shot at T2, skintones were at T2.8 and backgrounds were a stop and half under. S
Matt Garrett
Can you fill me in on what a springball is?
Guest Stephen Murphy
Can you fill me in on what a springball is? Basicaly a more robust version of a chinaball that can collapse for ease of packing. I used another springball with a 500 w bulb and dimmed a bit over camera for closer coverage.

David Woodworth
A longer trailer has gone online, only Flash im afraid but it gives you a sense of the rest of the project. http://www.mrspeppercornthemovie.co.uk Fantastic visuals! I really like the feel of the lighting, and am intrigued by the concept of shooting with tungsten with the color temperature set like that. I'm going to have to experiment with that. Out of curiosity, I was was browsing your blog and noticed some light plots from "Absolute" (another very nice piece of cinematography, btw)... what software do you use to make your lighting plots? Thanks, David Woodworth

P Funded more or less by one person actually, all private investment that the Director/Producer managed to drum up - quite an achievement. I rather like Trajan myself but then I'm not a graphic designer:-) Great link though!:)
