Mark Smith
A simple question, what.s the point of them? I know some can hold filters etc...but if the camera has that built in behind the lens...what is the point? Do I need one? Same goes for sunshades? Any method to the madness? Mark. Premium Member Phil Rhodes Posted January 24, 2005 Premium Member Share Posted January 24, 2005 Hi, Matteboxes hold filters, basically, yeah. Some of the filter stages rotate, which is essential for grad filters and polarisers - this can become a real bind on a circular filter, especially if you have several at once in the rotating mounts. The mattebox also becomes a base on which to mount things like eyebrows and french flags, which are intended to cut out flares. More upscale rod-mounted matteboxes are part of a much larger system of equipment including follow-focus, supports for heavy lenses, perhaps motorised remote focus and other lens accessories. Rik Andino
They can protect the lens somewhat... And also look pretty damn professional... KARMA bums
Joshua Jackson
How are matte box sizes measured? The size of the lens mount (like the K-3's M42?)? Where could I get them for the Krasnogorsk?? THanks!
Kenny N Suleimanagich
How are matte box sizes measured? The size of the lens mount (like the K-3's M42?)? Where could I get them for the Krasnogorsk?? THanks! First of all, you need to go to "My Controls" section of your profile and change your Display name to your first and last name. Matteboxes are measured length x height on the front of it. For a K3, a sunshade is more practical that screws on to the front and is circular. Measure (in mm) the diameter of the front element mount (like a filter) and buy accordingly.
