Chris Millar
In this case, the people had to stay still! it's always frozen, some added 3d. I think all the masks, helmets and goggles made it much easier to do most (if not nearly all) of this with mannequins ... Off topic but anyone else notice (that even after having assimilated ape suits into the 'reality' of the situation) how nonsensical a scene it was ? Ben Brahem Ziryab
The "making of" video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teoSDTJDjF4 The concept is very simple: They shoot two different plates, one with actors and one without, using a motion control camera. This way it's easier for the Visual Effect team to blend the CGI elements with the live action. Certainly very well done... Karel Bata
OMG. Now we're seeing special effects sequences purely for the sake of it! No context, no content, just 'wow factor'. Well, we're meant to be wowed in theory. Fact is, I got bored. Nicely done though. Edouard Salier did the basic idea much better for the Massive Attack video (though he does it with animation). In his you get some sense of a narrative unraveling itself. And hey kids - you really can do this one at home!: http://videocopilot.net/tutorials/advanced_time_freeze/ Hover your mouse over the image for a preview. Tyler Leisher
I thought they did this with mannequins and then added in the hanging stuff and breaking glass and wire removals later. OMG. Now we're seeing special effects sequences purely for the sake of it! No context, no content, just 'wow factor'. Well, we're meant to be wowed in theory. Fact is, I got bored. Nicely done though. This was actually made to loop on the new Phillips 21:9 TV that has environmental illumination. It wasn't meant as a short film for the sake of being a short, but more of a technical demonstration for the TV.
Karel Bata
Point taken. However without any narrative content, or character involvement, once you've done the 'how did they do that?' moment, there's not a lot left to engage you. Unless they figure that potential buyers of this set aren't looking for that. Which may be true, but I think some little bit of a plot or point of engagement would have improved it no end. Was there never any talk of a story? By contrast, the Massive Attack video slowly reveals information. This ad/demo, once you've 'got it', only gives up that final 'twist'. Nicely done though. No argument about that! :D
