Tips for pulling focus on SLR lenses?

Recommended Posts

What are some techniques besides going blind squinting at the monitor all day? A lot of the witness marks seem to change from stop to stop or aren't exact.

Well depending on the application alot of people are going with the Z-finder from Zacuto....and If its a set shot and you do not have to refocus then you can zoom in x5 or x10 in the live view mode before hitting record.

Right but then the operator can't see an image.

its Part of the "new non cinema camera" testing the industry is doing. You will just have to remark, learn to be fast with that, and it will serve as a great way when you get to use standardized gear, you will notice now you can afford a smoke break. Explain to the DP what the issue is, and they should be understanding, and we all want the same goal, sharp images. Thats the price production pays for shooting with non standard gear, not necessarily made for our business (but somehow we can use them for it)

Basically you're being asked to make a silk purse for the clients from a sow's ear of a system.

On a lighter note:

.. they are mount agnostic (e.g. can be Canon/Nikon or PL)

Nice term. Makes me wonder though...are PL mounts Catholic? Nikon mounts Shinto? PV would have to be Amish... :D
