john wenman Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 I'm shooting a low budget commercial on a 1D MK IV to be screened digitally in local cinemas. Can I just check the correct frame rate would be 23.976fps. Also would anyone know the correct picture ratios for cinema projection?

I think you will find the rate is 25 fps in Europe. 16:9 would be normal.

John Holland Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Thats true Phil but for a example "Alien" was shot at 25fps so everything { video on set as in displays } was all in sync at 50 htz . It was blown up to 70mm and i am sure no one in the world got tell it wasnt shot at 24fps.
Premium Member Phil Rhodes Posted June 4, 2011 Premium Member Posted June 4, 2011 Sure, absolutely, you can shoot at any rate you like (actually I've often recommended people shoot 25, and they always looked at me like I had two heads - then spent a lot of effort solving sync problems) But I'm not sure that anyone anywhere exhibits anything other than 25.

P Film projection is 24fps, but does the same hold true for Digital? Actually, I've just checked the DCI specs, digital projection frame rates, and it is indeed 24fps. So where is the old SVC moco rig? about 3 years ago I looked through the door & nobody was around, it's been a Starbucks @ 142 Wardour Street for a couple of years!
