J. Lamar King IMPOSTOR
The L-608 had a viewfinder readout in the eyepiece and a few more functions versus the older 508. It has been discontinued in favor of the more sensitive L-558c which has all the features of the 508/608 but has a fixed 1 degree spot meter, which apparently is why it is more sensitive. BTW, welcome to the forum and congratulations on your student ASC award. Edited March 1, 2005 by J. Lamar King
Premium Member Kevin Zanit Posted March 1, 2005 Premium Member Share Posted March 1, 2005 Yes, congrats on the award. I use a 508C, but my gaffer has the 558c. It?s a good meter. The 558 feels like the 608, where the 508 feels nothing like either of the two. What I am referring to is the feel of the buttons, body of the meter, etc. I like the spot meter in the 558 a lot. I like the zoom of the 508, but if I had to choose one over the other, I would probably go for the 558. Kevin Zanit
Rolfe Klement
I have the 608C - the big differences are Zoom viewfinder display of shutter speeds and aperture along with exposure compensation information Eyepiece diopter adjustment Separate incident and reflected mode exposure compensation settings Filter Factor compensation setting using the ISO2 function Up to 9 separate readings can now be averaged, vs. 3 for the L-508. The LCD display the number of readings taken. The averaged reading is displayed both on the LCD and in the viewfinder. Settable 1/2 or 1/3rd stop readings to match a specific camera's adaptabilities Flash triggering via optional built-in radio transmitter CR-123A lithium battery replaces AA cell of L-508 for more info check out http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/...ml#Improvements hope it helps thanks Rolfe Edited March 1, 2005 by Rolfe Klement
Michael Morlan
PJ, I just picked up the 558-C. If you want to play with it for a couple of days and poke through the manual, let me know. So far, the only thing I dislike about the 558 is the awkward position of the meter button when in spot mode. I'd have liked the meter and memory buttons switched to create more of a "trigger" feel to the spot metering.
