Maheshwar E Singh
Hi, The separation light in the attached image looks subtle and I like it a lot. Can anyone tell me how would the DOP would have achieved this? What light with what modifier at what distance? :) Thank You, Maheshwar Singh
Premium Member Aapo Lettinen Posted August 29, 2012 Premium Member Share Posted August 29, 2012 (edited) Probably a 400w or 575w hmi with maybe just a little bit of diffusion, maybe 2-3 meters away. Depending on the light levels on set, I would maybe try something like Kobolt 400w fresnel with small piece of 1/2 or 1/4 diffusion Edited August 29, 2012 by aapo lettinen
Premium Member Aapo Lettinen Posted August 29, 2012 Premium Member Share Posted August 29, 2012 (edited) key could be something like 2.5k hmi with some cto through about 6x6' diffusion almost directly above. there seems to be also some white bounce from below, not sure Edited August 29, 2012 by aapo lettinen

Paul Salmons
Could also be a shiny board back there in the direct sun.
Tom Jensen
Could also be a shiny board back there in the direct sun. I seriously doubt that is a shiny board since it is a very well controlled light. It looks like an HMI. The fill is also an HMI. It is a pretty basic lighting set up. rsellars
I agree with aapo and Tom. It looks like the quality and color of an HMI with a little diffusion. Definitely not a shinny board. No way to really know what size HMI since one can't tell know for sure how much ambient light is in the scene for the kicker to overpower.
