Premium Member George Ebersole Posted September 22, 2012 Author Premium Member Share Posted September 22, 2012 Because they look like egg crates? Egg Crates I meant the overhead fill lights that are usually chained to the grid. Every grip and gaffer I worked with called them "egg crates". It was just something I always wondered about...like clothes pins being called C-47s.

I assumed it was the grid pattern resemblance that earned the name.
Victor Nhat Nguyen
Then can anybody explain why clothespin are call c47?
Mark Dunn
Because they're everywhere? As in the aeroplane. There's a suggestion on Wikipedia as to how clothespegs (for such we call them) got the designation, and it's on Wikipedia, so it most be true. <_<
Premium Member Adrian Sierkowski Posted October 4, 2012 Premium Member Share Posted October 4, 2012 I always explain it as being Clamp size #47.. Of course I'm probably wrong on that, but it gets the question answered satisfactorily for the people who ask (who are often the types of people who if you don't give 'em an answer will hound you forever)
