theaterspots on car commercial

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I would love to have some advice on the following problem.

I'm going to shoot a car commercial next month. It will be one long technocrane movement with decor elements that will move etc but basically we' ll make a 180° around 3 cars. The client would love to have this theater spotlight feel. Normally I would just use as my main light put a huge grid cloth above the cars to have the nice reflections.

My question is, to get those nice beams of light and circle around the cars from the theaterspots and still keep the nice soft reflections without having the hard spots of the theater lights is there anyway I can combine those 2 atmospheres? I was maybe thinking in doing it with the gridcloth above and later in post composite the beams above the cars and the cirkels around the cars.

Remember, cars will move towards camera at the end and camera will move to.

If anyone needs more info to help me out let me know.

Thx guys

Having theatrical lights like pars and ellipsoidals in frame would convey a theatrical theme. Also, I think you could use a hard backlight without contaminating the low specularity of the overhead. The overhead could also be goboed off to create a round source.

Multiple round overhead sources of different colors would help your theme.

I would probably enhance the spotlight effect in post using a vignette.
