Albert Smith
This may be a bit of a dumb question, But I am interested in working with some of these formats for a project and was curious if there is anyway to somehow capture the footage at a higher resolution in order to see more detail in the image. I understand the recording resolution probably doesn't even resolve SD, but I want to see more of the flaws (scan lines etc) in higher def is this possible? Site Sponsor Robert Houllahan Posted January 15, 2013 Site Sponsor Share Posted January 15, 2013 Many of these tape formats do not really resolve more than a few hundred lines, and really noisy lines at at that. If what you are looking for is more analog video texture you could film off the screen which would get you a distorted perspective and pronounced scan lines and noise. If you want the analog video to look as good as possible then pass it through a Teranex we have done this for a few doc projects recently and it cleans up the old video as much as can be expected. Either way there is no more inherent detail lurking in the VHS or Hi8 tape. -Rob-
