Premium Member Frank Barrera Posted April 19, 2005 Premium Member Posted April 19, 2005 Okay. Just one more time. So I get this straight- If I'm shooting 24P for DVD out I should set V.Res to Interlace? Not Progressive. Is this correct? Thanks in advance for the hand holding. Frank Barrera
Rod Butler Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 My understanding is that if you're final destination is only for a film out or DVD out thru a progressive scan deck, you can gain benefit from the added vertical information in the resolution of the image, but if it has to be converted into NTSC (in other words, to a tape-based format), with the lower resolution of 525 scan lines, the extra verftical resolution causes unwanted aliasing and jitter. In that instance you would want to set v. resolution to interlace.
Premium Member John Ealer Posted April 20, 2005 Premium Member Posted April 20, 2005 Frank - In general, if you're finishing to standard def, use V.RES INTERLACE to avoid unexpected aliasing in finely detailed areas. In general, if you're upresing to HD or planning a film finish, then use V.RES PROGRESSIVE. Keep in mind that these are general recommendations. Your exact shooting scenario may dictate differently. (For instance, if you're shooting all greenscreen elements for standard def finish, you might want the extra resolution you get from V.RES PROGRESSIVE.) J
