Do it, make the shot happen or your done. Was on a shoot where that occurred, thankfully (for me) only the camera crew were dealt that ultimatum. I could do nothing but suggest to one camera op. who was too close to the tracks that we sandbag her and her tripod. The Producers didn't want to hear anything about safety. Oh, I forgot to mention one Producer was a lawyer and no this wasn't a short..

That's horrific behavior on their part but I completely believe you, JD. Is there no recourse for anyone when producers do that? What does your union do about this? I'm sure there is a policy on paper that vilifies & prohibits it, but what do they actually do to keep it from happening?...

There may be a policy, but when the attitude displayed is, "I'll sue you if your actions cause me to lose money.", there is no recourse against those who's job is to manipulate the law to their liking. Other acts by the same director. One grip replaced himself (one day) so he could attend his brothers wedding. This swap was approved by the Key Grip. Upon his return the grip was read the riot act because the Director had not been informed and the replacement may have not been as qualified in his eyes and thus impacted the schedule monetarily.

This business came from a dirty sheet put up at the circus.. not so long ago.. and TBH.. a lot of the people running it/working in it are from the same background..
