Sander Ferdinand
I know there are a few threads on this already, sorry in advance :-) I found 400ft of sealed 16mm Fujifilm F-500 in my closet. I'm guessing this stock is from somewhere around 2007-2009 The stock has been in a dry (room temperature) closet for at least 4 years. Will shooting with this give me an image at all :-) ? I don't mind if it gives a blue tint, or if I have to over-expose it. I'm just wondering the chances of it being completly ruined. Thoughts? Dirk DeJonghe
It will give a reasonable image, because of the high sensitivity it will have some gamma-ray caused fogging. If you overexpose by about 1 to 1.5 stops you should be OK for non-critical work.
Premium Member Jay Young Posted October 22, 2015 Premium Member Share Posted October 22, 2015 It will be fine. I just processed some 20 year old Kodak 500t that was stored in horrid conditions and it was... acceptable. The image will require some work in post. David Cunningham
Ditto. Should be fine assuming a good scan, grading and slight over exposure.
Premium Member Will Montgomery Posted October 22, 2015 Premium Member Share Posted October 22, 2015 A good colorist will work wonders with the film. That's not really that old for film. It would be better if it was 50D but even at 500T you'll be fine. I wouldn't shoot a paying TV spot with it but it will be fine for almost anything else. Sander Ferdinand
That's really nice to hear. I will probably end up using this one then! Cheers
Site Sponsor Robert Houllahan Posted October 23, 2015 Site Sponsor Share Posted October 23, 2015 I just find it amusing that if the film stock would even be exposable was a question ;-) Film is not as fragile as that, I have shot film from the 80's and it made images and some of those were pretty great. We developed some B&W from 1972 a year or two ago and it was foggy but it made interesting images. I don't think the hard drives we use today will work in 5-7 years. Chris Burke
If you are shooting outdoors, you will be amazed at how good it looks. Indoors in low light will show off all the grain and fogging.
