Financing a film

Hey everyone. I am considering financing a short film in the near future (not one of my own) and I had some questions.

 

I would be the sole financier and, although I doubt there would be any proceeds that would come from this, I figure I should be prepared, contractually. So what are some standard percentage rates that the financier vs. the filmmakers would recoup if there was some sort of monetary gain? I know this varies from project to project and that the financier usually gets the majority of the money that comes back in since he/she is the one that initially puts it up.

 

So for those of you who have a good amount of experience in this realm (Richard?), any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

First question.....how will you monetize a short film?

 

The only way I know would be prize money from some select festivals. If you put up all the money, you should recoup 100% in first position. Same as a studio would if they put up an advance against future proceeds.
