Arri Conversion Kit AS18 to M18

hi,

can I use the Arri Conversion Kit AS18 to M18 for converting my Arrisun 12 Plus to lensless arrimax or

will it only convert as18?

the official answer is NO but maybe it can still be done ?

The conversion kit is only to convert an AS18 to an M18.

It is not possible to use it with the old AS 12 Plus.

As18 and M18 reflectors mount at different positions in the housing. of the AS18. I'd doubt the the means exist in an ARRISUN 12 to provide a mounting surface for the M18 conversion reflector.

Placement of the globe arc in the reflector is critical to optimizing the performance of each light and the ideal placement is different for each type of reflector. The casting of the AS18/M18 has mounts for each reflector to optimize performance, the Arrisun 12 has mounts only for a par reflector. If I remember correctly the ARRIMAX reflector of the M18 mounts forward of the par reflector, which would mean that the casting of the Arrisun 12 does not extend forward enough to fit the ARRIMAX reflector. The AS18/M18 offer other benefits such as power factor correction in the ballast that make it worth while for you to sell the Arrisun 12 and buy an AS18 and the conversion kit ( use this link for more details.)
