Jake Bench
Hi there,Sorry if this has been explained before.Shooting a film on an Arri sr2 and looking to rent some 16mm lenses. Most rental places I've seen seem to offer kits with primarily wide focal lengths ie 9.5mm, 12mm, 18mm, etc.Would I be correct in thinking you must get a much tighter field of view on these lengths on 16mm compared to 35mm?Thanks in advance
Mark Dunn
Those are not especially wide on 16mm. You roughly double the length for 35mm.
Gregg MacPherson
What sort of weekly prices, or prices for the shoots number of days are you getting on superspeed sets (9.5, 12, 16, 25, 50)? Just curious. Are you including 35mm superspeeds in your set?
Premium Member Satsuki Murashige Posted February 26, 2016 Premium Member Share Posted February 26, 2016 What Mark said. A standard set of (9.5, 12, 16, 25, 35, 50mm) for 16mm would give you the equivalent field of view of (18, 24, 32, 50, 75, 100mm) for 35mm. This is because the regular 16mm format is roughly half the width and height of Academy 35mm.
Premium Member Satsuki Murashige Posted February 26, 2016 Premium Member Share Posted February 26, 2016 Often, the 35mm and 50mm in a 16mm prime lens set are 35mm format lenses that get thrown in. Zeiss Super Speeds were frequently mixed and matched this way.
Jake Bench
Thanks guys.Gregg, here in UK weekly price I was quoted was £600.Was considering 35mm superspeeds but decided against it as SR2 is prone to light leaks in my experience. Gregg MacPherson
If the rental company is friendly you might get a few minutes with a tech on the lens projector comparing 16 vs 35 format superspeeds.
