Edward Lawrence Conley III
How much do think the diffusion in front of the Para 177 is defeating the whole idea/reason of the Para Reflector ?
Premium Member Mark Kenfield Posted July 12, 2016 Premium Member Share Posted July 12, 2016 Depends on the density of the diffusion really, if it's taking all of the shape out of the beam, then they're spending WAY too much on hiring a soft light. If it's a lighter grade of fabric that still lets some shape through, but just takes the edge off the shadows, then that would seem a valid choice. Stuart Brereton
Maybe they just needed another soft source, and the Para 177 was closest to hand.
andrew ward
Thats what always happens. All DPs say "soften" when they mean "dim" these days. Its so stupid.
Premium Member Phil Rhodes Posted July 13, 2016 Premium Member Share Posted July 13, 2016 Maybe they just needed another soft source, and the Para 177 was closest to hand. This is so often the case. "You idiot! Why are you using [device] to perform [task] with such inordinate inefficiency?!" "Because we have one." P
Stuart Brereton
Once the light is going through a frame, it really doesn't matter what unit it came from. Using the Para might be hugely inefficient, but if it happens to be there, and it achieves what you want, then why not? People do bookights all the time too, despite them being a massive waste of energy. If it's getting used that way all the time, then it's a different story
Jean Gonzales
This is a photoshoot guys. I see a mix of Profoto and Broncolor. Probably just what the studio had available. Looking at the Para they spotted it all the way in through what I think is full grid cloth.
