DVX-100 shooting a Computer Monitor Question

Was wondering if anyone had advice on this issue....

 

We have a Panasonic 24 dvx100 (not 100A) and need to shoot a scene where we see text on a computer monitor. Someone told us that it's "impossible" to do, but I'm hoping it's not. Isn't there a way of altering shutter speed on the 24p camera or something to shoot a computer monitor without that streaking refresh thing going on on it?

 

Or maybe there's a setting on the monitor we can change in terms of refresh rate or something?

Barry Green's DVX book says to go into the 'CAMERA SETUP' menu, then adjust the 'SYNCRO SCAN' setting: point the camera at the monitor you intend to record, and "scroll through the shutter speeds until you find one that that makes the monitor stop flickering".

 

For U.S. television screens you'll usually use 1/60, for computer monitors you'll need to do the shutter scroll until you get the match you need.

Under the display settings. Refresh rate cannot be changed directly on monitors, AFAIK. You have to go through the Control Panel (Windows), or right-click desktop, etc, etc... For simplicity's sake, choose 60Hz. Every monitor, old and new, can handle that - and it syncs perfectly with the 1/60th "open" shutter.
