Jo Kamimura Posted July 1, 2018 Posted July 1, 2018 (edited) My first test with a 3 perf cameflex was perfect except for the gate flare present in the negative.Just want to confirm this is the case... however the triangle flare isn't vertically/horizontally flipped as the rest of the image. Looks like it's flaring/bleeding into the next frame. As far as solutions...paint the mask? Both sides? Which paint do you recommend?Attached below are the stills, and of the gate, with and without the shutter. Many thanks! Edited July 1, 2018 by Jo Kamimura
Premium Member Dom Jaeger Posted July 3, 2018 Premium Member Posted July 3, 2018 What material have they used to mask down the gate to 3 perf? It looks translucent orange! On the film it looks like it's passed light through, that orange strip has a sharp edge that matches the shape of the supposedly masked gate edge. So it's more than gate flare. Ideally you should replace that mask, otherwise I guess paint it front and back with a matte black paint.
Stefan Fischer Posted July 3, 2018 Posted July 3, 2018 I think the problem is that the 3 perf mask is not flat with the original gate, same problems have been reported with some 2 perf modificated Cameflex.

Premium Member Dom Jaeger Posted July 3, 2018 Premium Member Posted July 3, 2018 Yes that's quite possible, because there's a gap light can reflect off the film on to that highly reflective orange mask and then back on to the film.
