canon C-16 Macro ZoomC10x12 12-120mm

assistance if possible;

I purchased a canon C-16 Macro ZoomC10x12 12-120mm lens. It has an arriflex standard mount and

it does fit into my arri 16-ST bayonet opening. When I have the lens focused to infinity, and I have the zoom setting at 120, everything is in focus. With the zoom set at 120, I can change the focus down to 5' and even down to a few inches using the macro ring.

 

When I change the zoom ring downward to 12 or even 40, everything at about 20' to infinity goes out of focus. Any suggestions about how to adjust this lens? OR fix this problem? Or just live with it?

First make sure youre not in macro mode.

Check if the lens mounts holding levers are holding the lens in securely without any play. If this doesnt change anything then you should have the collimation checked.

The Canon C-16 Macro Zoom was based on the Academy Award winning Canon K-35 Macro Zoom for 35mm cine format cameras. Cinema Products was

the distributor for Canon 35mm professional lenses.

You focusing problem has to do when you have the lens in Macro mode. When you put the lens in Macro mode, you then focus the image with

the Macro ring, not the front focusing ring.

 

Canon 1st advertised the 16mm lens in 12/1972

 

 

In 1976, the Canon 12-120 was $450 cheaper than the Angenieux 12-120. However, at that time the Angenieux 12-120 was a more popular lens.

The Canon lens never caught on, and I don't think many were sold. Now rare. Rumors were around that the Canon 12-120 wasn't very sharp at

the wide end, but very sharp at the long end. Rumors. I never used one, so I can't say, yet I'm repeating rumors....

I'm curious about the mount on this Canon 12-120MM C-16? Any idea what this is?

That’s a Cameflex mount for Eclair.

Cameflex is not adaptable to PL but I believe the mount is changeable on those zooms (undo the rear lock ring). Not sure where you’d find a PL mount for those though, it’s different to the Intermediate mounts on old Angenieux and Cooke cine zooms. A machinist might be able to adapt the Cameflex rear.
