Dating early Panavision electronic system

Do I recall that Panavision tried for a movie-style setup for some sort of electronic camera, perhaps in the early 90s?

Was it a very early analogue HD system, or standard-def? I think it was a tube camera, perhaps set up to shoot things like the sitcoms that used to shoot 35mm on studio pedestals.

Sorry to be so vague. Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about? I don't even know what to google for.

I always found it interesting why they tried to get into that market and it was a complete failure because the guy who developed the system died and Panavision dropped the entire concept until 1999 when they struck a deal with Sony to make them a digital camera. I'm kinda shocked nobody in the US ever tried to use Sony's 1125i HD system for cinema. The CRT tube capture method looked more filmic then the early CCD's.
