Premium Member David Mullen ASC Posted April 11, 2004 Premium Member Share Posted April 11, 2004 Altman's "Short Cuts" is the only major film adaptation of Carver's stories. Plenty of films have used Hopper as a reference. The most overt was "Pennies from Heaven", which recreated at least two of his images exactly. The house in the fields of "Days of Heaven" was inspired both by Hopper and by the movie "Giant". I used Hopper as an inspiration for the hotel scenes in "Twin Falls Idaho" but I didn't recreate any paintings.
Rachel Oliver
My favourite Hopper painting is "Rooms By The Sea". Quite surreal, i've often thought about trying to re-create it on film. Had a little look at Andrew Wyeth's work after seeing Northfolk too - Beautiful.... Olly
Rachel Oliver
Sorry that's "Northfork" not "Northfolk" which is actually a Town in northern England!
Ozgur Baltaoglu
Blue Velvet (D. Lynch) has perfect Hopper mood! Most of his work does.
